Healing Waters From Rivers to Reefs
Reef Healers believe that the choices we make inland shape the waters downstream to the ocean. From rivers and streams to coral reefs and coastal communities, water connects us all. Our mission is to expand ocean conservation beyond the shoreline and into the places where water begins, engaging communities, supporting science, and taking action that benefits all life downstream.
Our Approach: Rivers to Reefs
Rather than treating freshwater and ocean work as separate efforts, we unite them. We help people see that actions in inland communities, like cleaning up a local river, ripple outward and ultimately affect ocean ecosystems.
We accelerate ecosystem stewardship through:
- Community involvement: empowering people to take part in real-world conservation.
- Education and awareness: helping people understand how water systems connect, from headwaters to the sea.
- Strategic partnerships: working with local leaders, scientists, and organizations to uplift collective impact.

Why Rivers and Reefs?

Rivers
As the world's arteries, rivers transport water and vital nutrients across landmasses to countless ecosystems and societies downstream.
These waterways are also susceptible to transporting various pollution and harmful chemicals from a multitude of sources that cause life-threatening oceanic conditions such as algal blooms and 'dead zones'.
Preserving and restoring the health of inland watersheds, streams, and rivers ensures that these waterways are nourishing life downstream rather than harming it.
-
Reefs
Coral reefs are the oceans' vibrant cities, providing critical habitat, food, and protection for a multitude of marine life.
When reefs are healthy, they provide protective barriers for coastlines from hazardous storm surges and erosion while also providing food and economic security to thousands of communities worldwide.
Preserving and restoring the health of marine ecosystems ensures that reefs maintain biodiversity and balance for the many global systems that rely above and below the sea.
The Reef Healers Action Fund
Internally, we commit at least 20% of our profits to this fund (10% to rivers and 10% to reefs) so we can turn your purchases into real projects, not just hope.
Every purchase supports our Action Fund, funding two things:
- River cleanup events, water quality conservation & research, and community education.
- Coral reef restoration, research, and long-term monitoring on Lighthouse Reef, Belize.
Supporting the Reef Healers’ mission is being a “Reef Healer”. Those who represent positive change and take action for a healthier planet.
Together, we ensure our collective contribution leads to meaningful, long-lasting benefits for the local water resources and the oceans downstream.

2024 Impact
2024 was a testament to the power of collective action and connecting with new people. Together, we’ve made meaningful strides in protecting our rivers, oceans, and the ecosystems that connect us.
📊 By the Numbers:
- 102.9 pounds of trash removed during local cleanups, keeping harmful waste out of waterways and oceans.
- 70+ volunteer hours dedicated by passionate individuals.
- A network of 2,000+ supporters united by a shared mission for conservation.
- 60-80 coral fragments outplanted onto the Mesoamerican reef through our Coral Tree initiative in Roatan Marine Park.
